Project Overview:

  • Location: RSPCA Lonsdale Campus
  • Builder: Cook Building
  • Architect: Ashley Halliday

Project Description & Objectives:

  • Objective: To provide an efficient and effective heating solution for the 643m² dog kennels at the RSPCA Lonsdale Campus.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with Cook Building and Lucid Consulting, the goal is to deliver a high-standard heating system tailored to the specific needs of the facility.
  • Solution: Design, supply, and install a custom underfloor heating system using 16mm REHAU piping to ensure optimal thermal comfort for the animals.

Project Scope

  • Design & Installation: Cook Building has engaged Eckermann Heating & Cooling to design and implement a customized heating solution for the two dog kennel buildings.
  • System Selection: An in-slab heating system with 16mm REHAU pipe was selected as the most effective method for heat distribution, ensuring efficient energy use and comfort.
  • Heating & Cooling Source: The system is powered by 4 LG Therma V heat pumps, providing both heating and cooling to the kennels, offering year-round climate control.
  • Benefits: The underfloor heating system is designed to optimize space, enhance comfort, and deliver energy-efficient heating, making it the ideal solution for the new kennels.

System Design

  • Heat Pumps: Four 16kW LG Therma V air-to-water heat pumps supply 100 watts/m² of heating to the kennels.
  • Temperature Control: A central 4-zone control system manages floor temperatures, ensuring precise climate control.
  • Pipe Distribution: 16mm REHAU pipes connected to 5 manifolds distribute heated and chilled water evenly throughout the kennel spaces.

Project Outcome

  • The hydronic heating and cooling system was successfully commissioned in November 2024, providing consistent and efficient temperature regulation in the new kennels. This solution not only ensures the well-being of the animals but also aligns with energy-efficient practices.
