Description

Objectives

  • To efficiently heat and cool 657m2 of common area spread throughout the new campus using Rehau tacker sheet on slab system.
  • Work with Baulderstone Constructions and Prompt Air to deliver an efficient heating/cooling system of the highest standard.
  • Supply and install high density floor insulation system

Project Scope

  • Prompt Air employed Eckermann Heating & Cooling as specialised contractors to design, supply and install the under floor heating and cooling component for the 120 million dollar Tonsley Tafe development.
  • A fully insulated Rehau Tacker sheet system was selected as the most efficient and effective solution for heating and cooling the 657m2 common area of the Tafe.
  • High density Tacker sheet insulation was supplied from Rehau to provide the heated floor with enough structural integrity to support large machinery.

System Design

Floor sensors connected to the building management system call for a heating or cooling requirement.

A trigen heat source located in the plant room generates the required heated or chilled water and delivers it to manifolds located throughout the common area.
The manifold distributed the heat through a network of Rehau heating pipes stapled to an insulation panel.

The pipes transfer the energy into the floor and heat is emitted into the space via convection and radiant heat.

The space is gently warmed or cooled until the desired temperature is reached.

Project outcome

The system was commissioned in April 2014 and has effectively heated and cooled the common areas of the new Tafe.
